Singing Update

Ask and ye shall receive.

As of Tues/Wed, I have decided I like the number 82. If you add the numerals together, they make 10 (but not like 73 or 46). 16 is still my favorite number though. I won a cake, after all.

Here's a song: "Engwish Bwudd" - Man Man

Have a crazy good day!

Subliminal Message?

'New Direction' is new theme for Democratic plan

USA TODAY - Democratic House and Senate leaders are planning to reduce the cost of student loans and prescription drugs, raise the minimum wage and launch an effort to develop alternative fuels if they win back control of Congress... House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi previewed the "New Direction for America" platform hammered out by Democratic members of Congress, mayors and governors. She and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid plan to formally unveil the plan today.

'New Direction' works fine on paper, but try saying the phrase aloud. To me, it sounds exactly like "nude erection." Hrm... I wonder who might have come up with this?

The cost of medical school

Medical school isn't cheap.

I absolutely HATE the idea of being in debt, but UMKC's medical program came with a steep price tag, and once I was accepted, there was no looking back. So for the past four years (when I could have been enjoying a free ride elsewhere), I have steadily racked up mountains and mountains of d-e-b-t, all in some vain struggle to get a couple of letters tacked onto the end of my name. When I think about the amount of money I've invested in this endeavor to date - money that I don't have - it literally makes me sick to my stomach.

This afternoon, I called the company that I get my student loans from in order to lock in as low of an interest rate as would likely ever be possible on my current loans (the rate will increase by 40% next year). I envisioned that the process would be rather tedious, but much to my surprise, the call went much more easily than I had anticipated. Chalk it up to good customer service...

I spent 1 hour, 13 minutes, and 34 seconds on the phone (about 15 minutes of which was spent on hold). The rest of the time I spent chatting with a delightful customer service representative named Tiana, mother to a two-year-old future neurosurgeon. Terrible as it may sound, the idle banter we exchanged while she was busy inputting information into her computer was the most pleasing conversation I can remember having with anyone for a long time.

How sad is that? An hour of small talk with a telemarketer is a success story.

DoRo is now finished. I never got around to writing a sweeping retrospective on all of my experiences over the past two months complete with audio, pictures, fireworks, and puppy dogs. Sorry about that... I was just too tired.

I'm currently on a study month, which means I spend my days hunched over a desk, cramming for Boards. Pretty exciting stuff, no?

Imagine the posts I ought to be writing...

Study Month, Day 6:

I read about osteomyelitis today. It was a wicked awesome couple of paragraphs.

Ahh, well... I'll try to keep posting anyway. Thank you, people who read this and leave comments.

And in honor of it being 6/6/06, a toe-tapping cover of The Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil":

Sandie Shaw - Sympathy for the Devil

More (Pretty much all highly recommended).
