Jon Stewart:

"Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot a man during a quail hunt ... making 78-year-old Harry Whittington the first person shot by a sitting veep since Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton, of course, (was) shot in a duel with Aaron Burr over issues of honor, integrity and political maneuvering. Whittington? Mistaken for a bird."

Hi nice post on Cheney and Aarron Burr, I got here on a blog search… I have also posted on this topic, if you want to check it out: www.debaterelatepontificate.blogspot.com

Thanks for the comment. I agree with your point that Cheney shooting someone hurts society much less than, say, him cutting programs which help the poor, sick, or elderly. In that regard, this seems to be a non-story.

But I also read this post earlier today, where the author pontificates that this story may be important, simply for the METAPHOR it provides. Your take?

Apparently Cheney had been drinking before the shooting, but he claims to have had only “one beer.” Maybe that “one” beer was the reason he refused to be interviewed by local authorities for over 14 hours.

Haha, that's funny! Not that he got shot, the mistaken for a bird part.
